Though my focus is in Graphic Design I consider myself to be, above all else, a maker. I finally got to take a woodworking class in my senior year at SUNY Purchase and this is the first project I built. The table top is made of Plyboo which is laminated strips of bamboo that are sandwiched together to create an extremely strong, heavy and beautiful surface. The legs are made of Poplar that has been stained to a reddish brown. The entire table can be pulled apart using no tools. There is no hardware holding it together at all. The leg sections are in two pieces. There is a lap joint that holds the two leg sections together at the their intersection. The top has the corners notched out and this locks the entire piece together. I built it so that it was easy to travel with and also to store when we had a lot of people over at our small campus apartment. |
